Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club’s longest row, from the club on Greenock’s Esplanade to Skye and back, took place in 1971. On the 50th anniversary of the trip, this is an account written up by one of the crew, Roger Graham, taken from a detailed log which he kept of the journey.

The crew: The six crew members on the row to Skye were all Greenockians. They were Sam Brown (26), a teacher in Glasgow, Ian Cameron (25), a teacher in Greenock, Colin Campbell (24), a computer programmer with IBM in Greenock, Dugald Carmichael (20), a production control worker with IBM, Ian MacDonald (26), a laboratory worker for ICI in Stevenson and Roger Graham (21), a journalist with D.C. Thomson in Dundee.
