Born Greenock. Eldest son of William and Janet McFarlane Abernethy, 14 Dalmally Street; husband of Annie Gavin Abernethy. Painter to trade. Apprenticed with D & D Colquhoun. Later worked with LMS. Educated at Holmscroft and Mount School. Brother John in service.
