Aged 26 Son of the late Mr & Mrs Hugh Darroch, Caledonia Crescent, Gourock Educated at Gourock Eastern and Gourock High. His brother Donald was a POW. Lived at 129 Roxburgh Street

Awarded to `2980642 Sgt A Darroch A & S H`, who was killed in action during the despite defence of Singapore on the 29th December 1941. Comprising: Distinguished Conduct Medal, `Sgt A & S.H.`, 1939/45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal. GC.
The DCM was announced in the London Gazette on the 23rd January 1942. `Recognition of Gallant and distinguished services in the South Pacific. Sergeant Albert Darroch served with the 2nd Bn Garrisoned in Singapore, he was a driver in one of the Battalions Lancaster light armoured cars. On the 29th the Japanese attacked with tanks, the Battalion armoured cars raced forward to engage as one soldier wrote `like Terriers against Mastiffs, Destroyers against Battleships`, but they held up the attack. Darroch`s car was hit, he being mortally wounded, however he refused to be moved and died fighting. His crew survived and Sgt Darroch was buried beside the road.
